I noted earlier this year a somewhat surprising addition to the Inazu household.
Maverick has now been with us a little over three months. I have resisted an update until now, primarily because I am still not a dog person. I remain allergic to dogs and generally uninspired by dogs (except for Maverick).
I can, however, sneak in an update through a brief post about my colleagues at Washington University School of Law. Earlier this month, my friends Trevor Gardner and Ben Levin arranged a Sunday afternoon meeting of the Committee on Dogs, or what in some circles might be called a “Doggie Playdate.” The inaugural meeting was memorialized by our colleague, Brian Tamanaha, who happened to be passing by. We also waved at Kevin Collins riding by on his bike and stopped to chat with Melissa Waters and her family.
This was just a random Sunday afternoon, and it reminded me why I like working here so much. These kind of idyllic and normal interactions actually happen, based on a combination of the people we hire, our geographic proximity to one another, and a walkable environment. It’s all rather lovely.
Of course, we also chatted about the potential tort liability of dog ownership and Brian pulled us into a discussion of legal pragmatism after snapping the picture. But you can’t expect us to be totally normal—as I detail in my next book, law professors are a unique bunch.
I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving!
The family dog, a term I believed I would never hear from your lips, John. Congratulations on your acceptance of this sweet pile of joy!
